WATER - Classification - Processed water

Tap water, soda and aerated water, table water and water cooler water belong to the category of processed waters.

Tap water

Is raised from the soil (groundwater or, sometimes, deep water reservoirs) or from lakes and rivers (surface water). Tap water usually undergoes chemical and/or bacteriological treatment to prepare it for human consumption.

Soda water and aerated water
Are treated or non-treated (tap) waters, to which carbonic acid and possibly minerals have been added.

Table water
Is water to which no other requirements apply than those that apply to tap water. There is no legal definition of this category.

Water cooler water
Is water, whether or not treated, dispensed from a water chiller. Some devices can serve hot water as well.
